Beyond the Lid: Our Factory Standards for Moisture-Proof Capsule Packaging

When you are packaging pharmaceutical capsules or high-end supplements, the stakes are much higher than with candy or biscuits. A small amount of humidity can cause capsules to soften, stick together, or lose their potency.

At Tinboxmate, we don't just make boxes; we create controlled environments. Based on our work with healthcare brands, here is how we ensure your metal packaging meets the strict standards of moisture and leak protection.

Why Metal is Superior for Capsule Longevity

Plastic containers might be cheap, but they are naturally porous at a microscopic level. Over time, oxygen and light can degrade sensitive ingredients. Tinplate is a total barrier. It blocks 100% of UV light and provides a solid wall against external gases. However, the "weak point" of any metal container is the opening. That is where our engineering comes in.

Three Engineering Secrets for an Airtight Seal

To achieve a true pharmaceutical-grade seal, we focus on these three technical areas:

1. The Compression Gasket (Liner)

A metal lid touching a metal body will never be 100% airtight. We integrate custom-fitted liners—usually made of food-grade EPE or silicone—into the top of the lid. When the lid is closed, it compresses this liner against the rim of the tin, creating a physical barrier that moisture simply cannot cross.

2. High-Thread Precision Screwing

For capsules, we almost always recommend a screw-top design over a slip-lid. We manufacture our threads with high precision to ensure a tight, consistent torque. This prevents "backing off" during shipping and ensures that even after a customer opens and closes the tin 50 times, the seal remains just as tight as day one.

3. Humidity-Control Coatings

It’s not just about keeping moisture out; it’s about ensuring the metal doesn't react with the product inside. We use specialized internal gold or clear lacquers that are BPA-free and medical-grade. This prevents any metallic transfer and keeps the capsules in a neutral environment.

The Child-Resistant Requirement

In many markets, capsule packaging must also be Child-Resistant (CR). We have developed a "Press & Turn" mechanism for our tin containers. This adds a layer of safety for families while maintaining the airtight integrity of the packaging. It’s a complex piece of engineering that turns a standard tin into a high-security medical device.

Testing for Peace of Mind

Before any batch leaves our factory, we perform vacuum leak tests. We submerge sample tins in water under pressure to ensure no bubbles escape. For a B2B buyer, this data is your insurance policy against product recalls and consumer complaints.
